Laura Brake

Laura Brake is currently the Provincial Mathematics Coordinator for the Department of Education, Early Learning and Culture in Prince Edward Island. She has a Master of Science degree with a specialization in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.

Throughout her career in education, Laura has been a teacher, an administrator, an instructional coach, a large-scale mathematics assessment specialist, and a mathematics achievement specialist. She is a frequent presenter and facilitator of sessions which focus on the integration of curriculum, instruction, and assessment at every level of education, for the improvement of learning at the classroom level. Laura has been a presenter for the Assessment Training Institute and the Pan-Canadian Research Conference on Large-Scale Assessments. In addition, she has worked with PCAP at many levels, including cut scores for the Science domain; and, item writing, field testing, mode studies, scoring, and the leading of scoring for the Mathematics domain.

Since 2015, Laura has been a facilitator and presenter for the mRLC in its Numeracy Achievement Project, providing collaborative instructional leadership for the professional development of educators, through Summer Institutes and ongoing Network Days of Mathematics.

With twenty-nine years of experience in education and leadership, Laura’s expertise is in the identification of learning needs and barriers within a system; and, the design and implementation of effective and efficient pathways to removing those barriers and meeting the needs for student achievement.
