Kelly Smith

Kelly Smith has been teaching high school English Language Arts for 10 years, 9 of which she has spent in Lord Selkirk School Division. During that time she has taught a variety of grade 10-12 ELA classes, including literary, comprehensive, and transactional focuses. She believes that it is important to relate literature to students' lives in order for them to create meaning.

Kelly has been using backwards design and planning in her classroom for two years, and is an active member of PLC, which focuses on implementing and discussing elements related to backwards planning. She has presented her progress to her division's administration and board of trustees.

During her career, Kelly has also been involved in the creation of several ELA Provincial Standards Exams. In 2014, Kelly was awarded a Teacher Recognition Award at the University of Manitoba.

Kelly currently lives in Winnipeg with her husband and son.
