Carol Larson

Carol Larson is a facilitator with the Manitoba Rural Learning Consortium (mRLC). Carol has almost 20 years of experience at the secondary level as a math and science educator, serving in schools in four states and two provinces. As a science major and math minor, she has taught virtually every high school science and math course offered. She has taught in both rural and urban settings, and has worked either as a teacher, consultant, substitute teacher, or volunteer in over 20 schools during the past 35 years. Carol has served on various curriculum-writing teams both in Manitoba and the USA, and is currently serving on a Test Development Committee for the province. In her after-school hours, she has worked for over 10 years for the University of Winnipeg as a lab instructor for the University 1 science courses offered through Campus Manitoba. This has helped her to have a clear vision of the skills and knowledge that the universities are expecting of our high school graduates.

Carol believes strongly in being a life-long learner. Her enthusiasm for professional development and continual learning helps to challenge her students to also become life-long learners. She voluntarily tutors students to allow the students to achieve their potential. Her joy comes from seeing students have that moment of awakening, when they finally understand a concept fully. She helps students believe in their potential by using assessments for learning based on the curricular outcomes, and then facilitating the learning of those needs.

Part of being a life-long learner is being willing to learn from others. Carol believes strongly that her most beneficial professional development has come through her participation on the various divisional and provincial committees on which she has served. The power of learning is in the group process and discussion as the curriculum is reviewed and essential learning outcome statements are created. Carol is excited to have the opportunity to work with colleagues in this group process.

Carol and her husband live on a farm in the Swan River Valley, where they grow haskap berries, apples, and hay. Carol can be contacted by email at or by phone at 204-734-4511 x 2207 (work).
