Parents and Students, can you help?

I'm trying to get media coverage for our Memorial Day Event.  The news these days are filled with awful stories. I thought it would be awesome to get something positive on the air, honoring soldiers, and showcasing students singing to encourage equality. The students have been working so hard learning our patriotic songs and engaging in in-depth discussions about freedom and equality in our country.

I've reached out to the local news stations, but I think if they heard from more people in the community, it would make more of an impact and hopefully a news station would want to cover this.

I am asking if you have a few seconds to send out an email with this message. It would be greatly appreciated!

Copy and paste this:

“We hope you’ll cover this great story!  It’s positive, it’s addressing an issue that impacts all schools, workplace and communities across the city and nation – respect, equality, diversity and inclusion. 500 students will be singing outside the school on Friday, May 24th, 2:15 pm, Ferryway School Malden, MA”

Add the subject line: "500 students singing for equality."

Here are the local stations contact info:

WCVB – (781) 449-0400 ask for news dept. or email: newsroom@wcvb.com

I know everyone is so busy, but if you could take two minutes to do this, the students and I would be so grateful!

The students have been working so hard on this event, I know they would be so excited to be highlighted on the local news!

Thank you so much!

Memorial Day Song

America The Beautiful!

America The Beautiful

America The Beautiful

Written in 1910

Words by Katharine Lee Bates

Music by Samuel A. Ward

1. O beautiful for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain!

        America! America!

God shed His grace on thee,

And crown thy good with brotherhood

        From sea to shining sea!

2 . O beautiful for patriot dream

That sees beyond the years

Thine alabster cities gleam

Undimmed by human tears.

        America! America!

God shed his grace on thee,

And crown thy good with brotherhood

        From sea to shining sea.

Star Spangled Banner

Star Spangled Banner

The Star-Spangled Banner

By Francis Scott Key

Written in 1814

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,

O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?

And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.

Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

This Land Is Your Land

This Land Is Your Land

Words and Music by Woody Guthrie

Written in 1940

Chorus: This land is your land This land is my land

From California to the New York island;

From the redwood forest to the Gulf Stream waters

This land was made for you and Me.

1. As I was walking that ribbon of highway,

I saw above me that endless skyway:

I saw below me that golden valley:

This land was made for you and me.

2.I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps

To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;

And all around me a voice was sounding:

This land was made for you and me.

3.When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,

And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,

As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:

This land was made for you and me.

4.As I went walking I saw a sign there

And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."

But on the other side it didn't say nothing,

That side was made for you and me.

5.In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,

By the relief office I seen my people;

As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking

Is this land made for you and me?

6.Nobody living can ever stop me,

As I go walking that freedom highway;

Nobody living can ever make me turn back

This land was made for you and me.

Grand Old Flag

Practice singing with this instrumental version.

Grand Old Flag

Written by George M. Cohan

1906

You're a grand old flag

You're a high-flying flag

And forever in peace may you wave

You're the emblem of

The land I love

The home of the free and the brave

Ev'ry heart beats true

Under red, white and blue

Where there's never a boast or brag

But should old acquaintance be forgot

Keep your eye on the grand old flag

What do you think?
I love my country because.....
America is special because.......
America makes me feel......
What makes America special?
Freedom is........

Memorial Day
