Bailiúchán Bia ar son Daoine atá gan Dídean i mBaile Átha Cliath

Le linn na seachtaine, bhailigh Rang 4.5 bia agus éadaí ar son daoine atá gan dídean i mBaile Átha Cliath. During the week, Class 4.5 collected food and clothes for homeless Dublin people.

At the moment, there are officially 9,527 people homeless in Ireland. When we did this collection in October 2017, that figure was 8,160. Sadly, this means that during the space of one year, an extra 1,097 people have lost their homes in Ireland.

One organisation working on behalf of this vulnerable group are “Friends helping Friends.”  “Friends helping Friends” are a soup kitchen based on Westmoreland Street in Dublin city centre every Tuesday and Saturday night. On any given night, they provide hot meals, hot drinks, snacks, sandwiches and clothes to up to 400 men, women and children. The soup kitchen is run entirely by volunteers and they rely 100% on donations of food from the public.

D’iarr Rang 4.5 ar mhuintir na scoile earra bia amháin a thógáil isteach agus ag deireadh na seachtaine, bhronnfaidís an bia ar fad ar “Friends helping Friends.” Chomh maith le sin, chaith siad lá ag obair go deonach i Swords Central  agus in sna Pavilions. D’fhan siad taobh amuigh de Dunnes Stores, SuperValu agus Penneys le tralaí. D’iarr siad ar na siopadóirí a bhí ag dul isteach bia nó éadaí a cheannach don lucht gan dídean.

Class 4.5 asked the school community to bring in one item of food and at the end of the week, they would donate all the food to “Friends helping Friends”. As well as that, they spent a day working in Swords Central and the Pavilions. They waited outside Dunnes Stores, SuperValu and Penneys with a trolley. They asked the shoppers going in to buy one item of food or clothing for the homeless.

D’éirigh go hiontach leis an bhfeactas agus níl ach sampla beag anseo den mhéad a bhailíomar:

The campaign was a great success and here is just a sample of what we collected:

  • 6,780 mála tae / tea bags

  • 237 barra seacláide / chocolate bars

  • 223 péire stocaí / pairs of socks

  • 209 paicéad pasta / packets of pasta

  • 188 canna pónairí & piseanna / tins of beans and peas

  • 151 paicéad brioscaí / packets of biscuits

  • 99 anraith stánaithe & paicéid / tins and packets of soup

  • 83 bia stánaithe / tins of food

  • 78 miotóga / pairs of gloves

  • 71 paicéad  ríse / packets of rice

  • 60 hata / hats

  • 69 próca d’anlann pasta / jars of pasta sauce

  • 15 bosca gránaigh / boxes of cereal

Ba mhaith le Rang 4.5 buíochas ó chroí a ghabháil le gach duine a chabhraigh linn.

Class 4.5 would like to say a huge “Thank -you” to everyone who helped us.
