Introducing myself,
Kia ora, Akonga this is my 30th year of teaching a Mairehau High School as the Head of the Art Dept.
I have a Fine Arts Degree from Otago Polytechic with a major in Painting.
I have also been a lecturer for Canterbury University College of Education in Visual Arts working with those aiming for a career in Art teaching.
I am the head of Visual Art at Mairehau and Head of the Arts Faculty (including Drama and Music)
I have secondary role as the Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator for Mairehau High School where I work with Year 9 to 13 students who have been identified as needing support and extension.
In the last 6 years I have personally created a studio at my home and paint and exhibit my own work. I focus on atmospheric landscapes that have been inspired by the Southern Lakes.

About me:
About me:
My name is Mr Chan, and I teach visual arts at Mairehau High School. I was born and raised in Nelson, and I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from Canterbury University.
I spent the last 12 years in Melbourne, Australia, managing hospitality venues, creating artwork, travelling, and continuing to study and earn a Graduate Diploma in Graphic Design before returning to New Zealand with my wife to pursue my Masters of Teaching and Learning at Canterbury University.
In my spare time, I enjoy a variety of activities, including art. I enjoy cooking and am interested in growing and catching my own food. I spearfish and dive, and will find any excuse to be underwater. The ocean holds a special place in my heart because fish were my main subject of interest as a child, which led to a fascination with drawing ocean life and developing my love of art at a young age.
