FORUM HIGHLIGHTS:

CAL Corner: “A Guide for the Family of the Alcoholic” (P-7) is this month’s focus piece of CAL….It is the 55th Anniversary of this pamphlet!  This piece of literature gives us “dos” and “don’ts” as suggestions of course!  Great as a topic for a newcomers meeting or just as a refresher!! It was written by Reverend Kellerman, Director of the Charlotte Council on Alcoholism. He also wrote “Alcoholism, A Merry-Go-Round called Denial (p-3).

SHARE HOW YOU HAVE BEEN HELPED BY CAL! In what ways has Hope for Today (B-27), The Dilemma of an Alcoholic Marriage (B-4) or Opening Our Hearts, Transforming Our Losses (B-29) helped you?  Send your thoughts via e-mail to

wso@al-anon.org with CAL Corner in the subject line…deadline is July 15th 2017.

STEP 6:  Al-Anon is my repair shop:  “Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.”

This member likens their character defects to a flat tire or a cracked window.  Al-anon has the “tools” to repair these defects…A new window helps us see more clearly and inflated tires make for a smooth ride!

TRADITION 6: Safeguard this special place: This member from Virginia talks about the importance of not letting us get “derailed” by outside issues. She speaks that she needs ONLY to identify that she has been affected by the disease of alcoholism….nothing else!

CONCEPT 6: This Takes Major Letting Go:

Concept 6 is about accountability and how that affects relationships. This member talks of the struggle she sometimes feels as a parent and grandparent with who, when and how each member of her family has their own areas of responsibilities. Al-Anon has taught her to offer her experience, strength and hope ONLY WHEN ASKED. “I put my family in the loving hands of my higher power” she shares.

It takes COURAGE

We hear this word throughout our literature, and it is mentioned twice in the Serenity Prayer. Courage is part of every one of the 12 steps!

LOVING the person NOT the disease! Paula from Florida shares that Al-Anon taught her about the “isms” of the disease. How she has learned to separate the person from the disease. Working the steps showed her she also had many of these “isms”.
