The Symphonic Band is the second curricular concert band at Maine East High School. The ensemble is approximately 60-70 wind, brass and percussion students and does not require an audition, given the musician has been in a band class at a previous school or junior high before enrolling. This band rehearses in three separate classes - a woodwind class, a brass class, and a percussion class - each 45 minutes long. The band then meets together as a whole ensemble a few times before a concert to coordinate parts and whole pieces. The ensemble plays 3-4 concerts per year, attends local festivals as schedules allow, hosts numerous high school and collegiate guest conductors, and plays grade 3-4 literature. Students in Symphonic Band are highly encouraged to study privately and be dedicated to the constant improvement of their personal musical skills.
