Congratulations:

*Congratulations to the Hawkettes on winning the CSL Conference Championship on Tuesday. The sectional is next up for them this Saturday at Gurnee Warren HS at 3:00. Good luck.


*Boys Swim/Dive had a great performance Friday night with a 94-92 dual win over New Trier. So far the information gathered indicates this is the first time the boys team has defeated NT in a dual meet since the 1970's.


*Congratulations to the Maine South Cheer team on their 2nd place finish at the CSL Conference Cheer competition on Thursday night. They finished 2nd to Vernon Hills by 14 hundredth of a point.


*Congratulations to the Girls Gymnastics team on winning the Niles North Invite on Saturday. Cristina DeFilippis was 4th on the vault, Caleigh Pistorius 3rd on the uneven bars, Annie Middendorf was 1st on the beam and Collette Roth 4th in floor exercise.


SENIORS:  

Senior Class Council will be meeting every Wednesday morning second semester in room A-121 at 7:15 am to plan Senior Prom, Senior Breakfast and the Senior Great America overnight Trip. Come and get involved in these events in your last semester at South.  We would like you input.

There will be an informational meeting for all girls interested in joining the girls track & field team on Thursday at 3:30 pm in room C101.  We will be discussing the start of the season, which is next week.


Girls Lacrosse:

Girls Lacrosse will be located in the back gym from 7-9pm tonight. All are welcome...no experience needed. Please have a lacrosse stick, mouth guard, running shoes, eye protection, and a water bottle.  The open gyms will be every Wednesday same location and time until the end of Feb (or the start of the season).


GSA:

GSA’s next meeting will be on Thursday the 10th after school in A101A.

*Congratulations to the Maine South Boys Swim and Dive team on winning the Hawk Relays on Saturday. This is the first time they have won the Hawk Relays in over 20 years.


*Cheer finished 8th out of 22 teams at Lake Zurich on Saturday.

*Selfies with Santa is back!!!!  Thursday during periods 4-7, Santa will be in the cafeteria on the red couch waiting.  For a $1 donation to the School-wide fundraiser, you can take a picture with Santa. You will also receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win four tickets to a Bulls game along with a parking pass. Be sure to create a lasting memory of the holiday season while supporting the school-wide fundraiser.


*Support the school-wide fundraiser for Dup15q and start off your holiday with some cool prizes. This week during lunch periods, bring your dollar bills to enter into raffles for a mini fridge, Bears tickets to the upcoming Packer's game, ABT electronics gift cards, Starbucks gift cards and more! It's $1 per raffle ticket, and sales will take place inside the cafeteria.


*MCYAF is doing a collection of gently used backpacks, hats, gloves, socks, scarves and toiletries for the homeless living in the woods of Maine Township. There are collection boxes by Door #3 and inside the Main Office, On Saturday, Dec. 15th, everyone is invited to come and assemble the backpacks for the homeless in the Principal's Conference Room at 1 pm. Service hours will be given for the work. See Dr. Teri Collins in the MCYAF office for more info.

They are all a part of Maine South's 2019 musical, Into the Woods! Don't miss the chance to be a part of this dark comedy about some unlikely characters that meet in the woods and try to escape a witch's spell and a giant's revenge.  Auditions will be held on December 12 and you do not need any experience to audition! *Congratulations to Maine South swimmer Annika Wagner. Annika finished 1st and 2nd in individual events at the IHSA State Finals on Saturday. She was first in the 200 IM breaking the state final record with a time of 2:00.13. She was also second in the 500 Free with a time of 4:48.53.


*Congratulations to Coach Kura and the Girls Swim/Dive team as they finished 11th in the state overall. There will be a state championship recognition ceremony for Annika on Thursday, December 6 at 7:45 am in Spec Gym.


*Congratulations to Coach Hamann and the Girls Basketball team. They have started the Bison Classic Tournament with a 2-0 record. A win on Tuesday at Hersey against Buffalo Grove would put them in the tournaments final four next Friday and Saturday.

ICO CHICAGO COLLEGE FAIR

A small but growing number of high school students are choosing to attend universities outside the U.S. for their Bachelor’s degree.  If you are interested in learning more about your international college options, there is a college fair in mid-November you should attend.  

The International College Options Fair will be:      

Tuesday - November 13 - 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Hyatt Place O'Hare - 6810 Mannheim Road - Rosemont

Aligned Modern Health, a Chicago-based wellness clinic, has launched a scholarship contest where the winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship towards furthering their education after

high school. The contest requires students to write a 500 word essay describing

why they want to pursue their intended field of interest and what they plan to do

once they receive their degree/certification.


Professionals at the Aligned Modern Health clinics include: Chiropractic

physicians, acupuncturists, nutritionists and registered dietitians, physical

therapists, rehabilitation specialists, massage therapists, clinic managers and

patient coordinators. Therefore, students  must plan to be going into

one of those fields to qualify.


The contest runs November 5, 2018, through February 1, 2019, with the winner

being announced in Mid-February.

Congratulations:

*Congratulations to the Boys Cross Country team on their 13th place finish at the IHSA State Finals. The Hawks were led by All-Stater Tommy Brady who finished 2nd overall. Tommy's finish was the best in the schools history.


*Congratulations to the Maine South Football team on their 41-14 2nd round victory over Waubonsie Valley. The Hawks now advance to the IHSA Quarter Finals. They will play at home against Loyola this coming Saturday. Kickoff time is set at 1:00 pm at Wilson Field. Advance tickets will go on sale Tuesday morning in the Maine South Bookstore and Athletic Office. All tickets are $6.00. No passes accepted.


*Congratulations to the Girls Swim/Dive team. They finished 4th at the CSL South Conference meet on Saturday. Annika Wagner was the Conference Champion in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke while setting new school, pool, and conference records in both events.
