Patel College of Global Sustainability Professor Joseph Dorsey gave a presentation on February 10th, 2017 for Cuba: At The Crossroads, a symposium organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program at Rollins College. Dr. Dorsey's panel discussion was on The Rise of Urban Agriculture in Cuba: Sustainabilitism in an Emergent Caribbean Nation. His presentation focused on the theory of Sustainabilitism in the applied context of Cuban urban agriculture.

"On a practical level, long-term sustainability is a goal that is difficult to achieve without the systematic integration of ecological, economic, and social equity factors. I have developed a conceptual framework called 'Substainabilitism,' It measures and models the process of cooperative and competing interconnections in dynamical systems," presented Dr. Dorsey.

Research topics explored a broad range of topics that inform on the current state of Cuban society and analyze possible future transformations. Presentations also promoted a dialogue about the changing relationship between Cuban, the United States, and other nations.
