Induction ceremony: Tuesday, March 25th from 7-9 p.m. at the Main St. Pub in Allendale.
What is it?
The local chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society, promotes the study of history by honoring students who have maintained high academic standards throughout their college careers. Our local chapter is called Omega Theta at Grand Valley State.
Why should I join?
Membership is included on your official transcript has can be helpful during job searches and with graduate school applications! This helps give you an edge when applying for jobs, scholarships or graduate school.
Members of Phi Alpha Theta are eligible to wear an honor cord at graduation. Honor cords cost $20.00 and can be purchased in the History Office.
Am I eligible?
Students must have completed at least four history classes (12 hours) at GVSU *Please note: three credits can be transfer credits from another institution.
GPA of at least 3.25 overall as well as 3.25 in History classes. We cannot be flexible about these standards. If you are interested in joining Phi Alpha Theta and you meet the qualifications.
What do I need?
Please come to the History Office (MAK D-1-160) with the following:
Unofficial or official transcript
Your G number
Local mailing address and permanent mailing address
Local telephone number, and an email address.
Deadline: February 29th at 12:00 Noon.
How do I join and what does it cost?
You will receive a formal letter inviting you to the induction ceremony if you meet the qualifications. One time fee of $65.00, membership dues. Phi Alpha Theta membership at GVSU is open to all students who qualify. If you become a member, please consider getting involved in helping to plan and organize activities.
