Welcome to the Teacher Education Academic Advising site! Check here regularly for announcements, resources, and information regarding your journey through the Teacher Education program. Communication between student and advisor is vitally important. Academic advising is a connecting point for all Fort Hays State University students. At FHSU, we believe in the importance of academic advising, so each student has been assigned an academic advisor. At FHSU, academic advising is based on a system of shared responsibility between student and advisor. Take the initiative and make regular contact with your advisor to discuss any questions or concerns.

Working with Your Advisor
An advisor is a faculty member or trained professional with whom you have the opportunity to meet with and talk to one-on-one about your academic program and your career/life goals. You should contact your advisor when you have academic related questions. Advisors can help you:
  • Understand program requirements
  • Plan semester schedules and pre-enroll
  • Explore career options
  • Understand department and university policies

Academic Programs
The Department of Teacher Education offers an array of programs, including Bachelor of Science degrees in Early Childhood Unified, Elementary Education and Secondary Education in addition to a minor in Special Education, a certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and education workshops. Most academic programs in the department are offered both on-campus and online. These programs prepare teachers that are technologically proficient, pedagogically sound, sensitive to diverse student needs and engaged in student success.
