Northern Valley Fibromyalgia Educational Support Group

I facilitate and manage a local support group for people who have fibromyalgia.  Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a complex medical condition affecting over 6 million Americans.  This disorder is characterized by fluctuating levels of pain and aching in the muscles, tendons, and ligaments throughout the body.  Our group meets September - June on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 10:15-11:30 am in the Enloe Rehabiliation Center, 340 West. East Avenue, Chico, CA  95926.  Messages to the group can be left at (530) 332-3261.  Information about fibromyalgia can be obtained at the Fibromyalgia Network Newsletter.

I prepared a variety of information for our meetings that I am happy to share.  Of course, none of this material should be used as a substitute for, or without consultation with, a physician.
There are a few strategies that folks in our meetings use when they want to avoid using medication or at least have a chance of avoiding medication:
  • Epson Salt baths before bed and/or after lots of activity.
  • Batherapy is at type of bath product that includes a variety of natural and medicinal ingredients and comes in Lavender (good for bedtime), Sport (good for after lots of activity), and Original.  I usually get the liquid because I like the bubbles, but the powdered works just as well.  I usually get it at Walmart or Walgreen's but the link will take you to Amazon.com for the variety available.
  • Blueberries and pineapples are terrific anti-inflammatory foods.
