My name is Ashley Atkinson, and I currently am the speech therapist for the STEP program and the self-contained special education classes at Rose Lane. This is my fifth year with Madison, and my eighth year as a Speech Language Pathologist. My specialty is working primarily with students who have Autism, however, I also have experience working with a variety of other children in the school and clinical settings. The last two years in Madison I have had the opportunity to work with students in the cross category self-contained classes. Teaching children to communicate is my passion and finding each child’s unique strengths to help them express themselves is my way of helping them grow as individual learners.
Lunch Buddies, Namaste Rocket Yoga, and Mentors/Peer Pals, are peer mentoring programs I have been involved with while working in the Madison School District. It wouldn’t be possible without the help of our volunteer peer mentors, teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators to be able to provided these programs to assist our lovely special needs children in these amazing programs we provide during the school day and after school here in Madison.
I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and completed my Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Bowling Green State University. I moved to Alabama where I attended the University of South Alabama for Graduate School and received my Master's of Science in Speech Language Pathology. I decided to take a leap of faith moving to sunny Arizona for a job in 2009 where I have been ever since.
