Shorewood ESL Program

Welcome to

Shorewood Hills Elementary!

The English as a Second Language program at Shorewood School is the oldest ESL program in the Madison Metropolitan School District.  We service students from over 30 different countries. Over one half of the students at Shorewood are English Language Learners (ELL), at levels varying from beginner to advanced. We are a team of five teachers. In addition, there are currently five Bilingual Resource Specialists (BRS) who support classrooms, students, and parents in Arabic, Chinese, Korean, and Spanish.

Our staff teams with classroom teachers to deliver English language instruction.  We focus on the four areas of language: reading, writing, speaking and listening.  We also support math, science and social studies. The amount of support varies depending upon the needs of the students.
