Welcome to Madison Academy K-8 Music/Technology

Greetings, my name is Chuck Russell and I am the General Music and Technology Teacher here at Madison Academy.  I am also Shared Services to Holy Rosary Catholic School where I, also, teach General Music and Technology there as well.  I am excited to begin my seventh year here at Madison and I believe this will be another great school year.

A little about myself: I grew up in Flint, Michigan and I live in Flint Township. I attended and graduated from Flint schools.   I have two bachelor degrees from the University of Michigan. A Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Trumpet Performance and a Bachelor of Music Education with a minor in History.  I was a substitute teacher in various schools for 11 years where I have held several long and short term assignments in the areas of Choir, Computers and Careers, U.S. History, Science, General Music, and Band.  For over 30 years I have taught brass and guitar privately at various schools and music stores with students ranging in age from elementary school to adults.  While raising a family and attending college, I worked in the field of restaurant management for over 30 years. My wife works in education and all three of our children attended and graduated from colleges such as: University of Detroit-Mercy, Michigan State University, and University of Northwestern Ohio.

In my music classes, students will learn basic music reading skills, music theory, movement to music, and performance in grades K-6. Grades 7 & 8 will study topics such as Music History, History of Rock n Roll, and History of Music Technology.   I believe students should understand what the music is about and not just how to perform it.  You can expect to see homework and the occasional project brought home by your student. I also have a Middle School Choir (grades 6-8)  that will perform at both concerts and, this year, other events.

In Technology, students will learn such things as computer terminology, keyboarding skills, data base research, word processing, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint. In addition, I will be working with the 8 graders on their EDPs (Educational Development Plans).

Be sure to check out the other pages on my website for my schedule, class guidelines, grading policy, the homework pages for each grade for makeups, information on EDPs, and watch the announcement page for updates and announcements.
