Welcome to Second Grade!  This is my fifth year teaching at Madison Academy.  I began at Madison as a long-term substitute where I was in a sixth grade class.  I am very excited about this school year!  I graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint with my degree in Elementary Education, with a focus in Early Childhood Development.  In my free time I enjoy camping, hiking, hunting, and cooking.

Second grade is a very important grade for children.  During second grade, children are making a transition from building the foundation of their education to becoming more independent learners and individuals.  There are a lot of amazing changes that each child will experience as they grow and learn at this age, and they need a lot of support and guidance to be able to make these changes in a positive direction.  Part of my passion for education involves always striving to be able to help children grow and learn in a way that best suits their needs.

Remember that children need a healthy snack every day.  Snacks such as cheese, pretzels, fruit, yogurt, and other healthy options are the best choice for the classroom.  These are great choices for the classroom because they are not only easy to clean up, but they are simple to maintain.  Snacks that are filled with sugar may have a negative impact on your child's ability to focus, stay on task, follow directions, and positively participate in our classroom activities.  Clear water is the only liquid allowed in the classroom.  Remember that a well-fed, hydrated brain is the most effective for learning.
