Research & Geoscience Positions

GeoCorps America is a program of the Geological Society of America (GSA), in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the National Park Service.  It offers paid short-term geoscience positions in geology, hydrology, paleontology, mapping and GIS, minerals, soils, glaciology, geo-hazards, karst, education, interpretation, and more.  Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter positions are available.  Click here to apply.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), a program of the National Science Foundation, supports undergraduate research projects with professors around the nation.  Opportunities in the Earth Sciences can be found and applied for here.

The Keck Geology Consortium conducts summer research projects focused on field-based experience involving professors and undergraduate students from colleges and universities around the nation.  Field sites are located in the United States and around the world.

Academic Travel Funding

Apply for a Macalester College Travel Grant if you plan to present at an academic conference, attend a research symposium, or travel to another college-related event.  Funding requests must be submitted to the college at least 3 weeks prior to the event.

GSA Travel Grants are available to students traveling to a GSA Section (regional) or the GSA Annual Meeting. 

AGU Student Travel Grants are also available to those presenting at the annual AGU meeting.  (Preference given to those presenting a first-authored oral or poster presentation.)

Field Camp Funding

National Association of Geoscience Teachers & the Association of Women Geoscientists have a $500 scholarship. Due around mid-February each year.

GSA and Exxon Mobile have a field camp award, 7 students receive $2,000 each to attend the field camp of their choice based on diversity, economic/financial need, and merit. Application period is 18 January - 23 March.
