Professional Geoscience Societies

Being a student member of a professional geoscience community is a great way to find internships, apply for awards and scholarships, and receive free and/or discounted access to meetings and publications.  These communities are also particularly useful if you're nearing the end of your tenure at Mac and looking for post-undergraduate opportunities. Listed below are some of the most well-known organizations.

American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Students majoring in geology or in a field of study related to or generally associated with geology at a college of acceptable academic standards.  Free access to some AAPG publications (The Bulletin and the Explorer + Archives). Career services and grants in aid.  $10 Annually ($0 if you elect to have Chevron sponsor your student membership) 
American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) Student Adjunct Members shall be currently enrolled majors in a geoscience program at a college, university, or similar institution. Young Professional Members is applicable during the first three (3) years upon earning a baccalaureate but are not otherwise screened prior to acceptance.  $0 Students, $25 Young Professionals. 
Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM) Student membership in the Society for Sedimentary Geology is open to all full-time students in earth science at accredited schools. Apply for SEPM Student Grants. Free online access to PALAIOS and the Journal of Sedimentary Research and deeply discounted rates on other SEPM publications. Discounted rates to attend SEPM functions Recieve the 'Sedimentary Record' for free $ 25 Annually 
Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP) Student Membership applications require that you: 1. Upload a copy of your current University or College ID card 2. Upload the signature of an advisor. The electronic SVP Membership Directory contains contact information for the entire SVP member community. Subscription to: The Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology (JVP), SVP News Bulletin, and The Bibliography of Fossil Vertebrates (BFV). Opportunity to attend SVP’s Annual Meeting. $50 Annually (Electronic Only Subscription)  
The American Geophysical Union (AGU) Any individual enrolled at least halftime in a degree-granting program. Special rates on meeting registrations and on most subscriptions. $7 Annually 
The Geological Society of America (GSA) Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled and majoring in geology or a related field OR not currently enrolled as a student , but received a degree in geology or a related science within the last two years. Search and apply for GeoCorps summer postions. Apply for travel and research grants. Register for annual and regional section meetings. Receive free online access to some GSA journals (Geology, GSA Bulletin, Geosphere, Lithosphere, Journal of the Geological Society of London) $30 Annually 
The Geological Society of Minnesota (GSM) All people who have an interest in supporting or participating in a public-spirited organization devoted to increasing our understandings in the Earth Sciences.  Invites to lecture series, access to GSM's extensive media library, field trips, A free copy of Rocky Roots...Three Geology Walking Tours of Downtown St. Paul.
