  • Welcome to 8th Grade I am so excited to begin the journey into 8th grade with your children on Wednesday. I have completed the move into our new 8th grade classroom P-17. I had a lot of fun decorating it, and I am looking forward to welcoming the students into their new room on Wednesday and starting to make many special memories throughout their last year at Mariposa.

  • Kindness Week Our class has been enjoying kindness week! We have had some very crazy and creative hair, socks, and hats so far. This is our kindness door display! Each student selected a classmate and made a special butterfly for that classmate containing kind messages to be enjoyed.

  • The Age of Exploration and Discovery On February 19th, we began our Main Lesson block: The Age of Exploration and Discovery The 7th graders began by exploring sailing superstitions of the time. Some such superstitions included the idea that whistling or singing into the wind was forbidden as it would "whistle up a storm" and anyone aboard who trimmed their nails, cut their hair or shaved their beard brought bad luck to the ship.In this block, the students will learn about the motivations and dangerous travels of the European and Chinese explorers of the age. However, we will focus on the devastating impact these explorers had on the native people in the lands they "discovered".

  • Physics - Rube Goldberg Machine Project The physics Main Lesson block contains one of the most exciting projects of the 7th grade year in the Waldorf tradition: The Rube Goldberg Machine Project! If you are not familiar with Rube Goldberg and his machines, click on the title link for this announcement to see a slideshow.The class spent the first few weeks of this block studying physics in order to gain the background knowledge necessary to engineer their machine. They have learned learned about simple machines and compound machines, Newton's Laws of Motion, the three classes of levers and more! The Rube Goldberg Projects will be created in the classroom during Main Lesson.
