Yosemite Camping Trip

On September 19th the entire school will go on an overnight school trip to Yosemite Valley (in Yosemite National Park) to study and learn in the outdoors. This type of Placed Based Education is part of our school district’s strategic plan and will be a great way for our students to learn in a new environment, with fun activities, applied learning, and interdisciplinary study tied directly to California content standards. These are regular school days, only in a different location. Student attendance is required. The assignments completed on this trip (and as a result of this trip) will form an important part of students’ class grades. On this trip we will be taking samples of water to analyze pH levels, learning how the government makes decisions, constructing sundials and hatchet planimeters, debating whether to drain the reservoir to restore the valley, and much more!

We will spend both Wednesday and Thursday night at Dimond O Campground, west of Yosemite, near Hetch Hetchy. We will have spotty phone service. We will leave school around 9:00 AM on Wednesday the 19th and return to school by 12:45 PM on Friday, September 21st in time to take the bus home. Please see the attached schedule to see a more detailed description of our activities during the trip.

Also attached is a list of supplies and equipment each student will need. Please go over this list carefully. If there are items that you do not have, please send a note to school and we will make sure the items will be provided. All meals will be provided.
