 Homework Assignments
Week 3

Tuesday
9/4       Based on my suggestions, the grading criteria, and your own ideas, revise your childhood memory and improve your writing as much as you can. After you make the main revisions, read your narrative aloud and correct for any typos, repeated words, awkward sections, etc. Make sure to show your memory and not merely tell what happened. Final drafts are due tomorrow. Work on your Coat of Arms (due Friday).

Wednesday
9/5       Finish your House on Mango Street reflection and hand it in on Google Classroom. Work on your Coat of Arms. 

Thursday
9/6       Finish writing your Six Word Memoir and finish making your Coat of Arms. We will compile our Mini Memoirs in class tomorrow. 

Friday
9/7       Read in your IR book. If you’re reading more than one book for this quarter, the first test is due by Friday, September 28th.

 

Week 2

Monday
8/27     Based on peer editing suggestions, the grading criteria, and your own ideas, revise your childhood memory and improve your writing as much as you can. Second drafts are due tomorrow. I will write comments on your second drafts and final drafts will be due next week.

Tuesday
8/28     Answer the questions about Sandra Cisneros’ story “My Name,” and ask your parents about how they chose your name. Hand in your homework on Google Classroom. Make sure your notebook and Mango St. book are ready for a notebook check tomorrow. 

Wednesday
8/29     
Finish writing the story of your own name. First drafts are due tomorrow. Please print out your draft before class if possible.

Thursday
8/30      
Answer the questions about "The Three Sisters" and continue reading for your Mango Street reflection assignment. 

Friday
8/31     Read in your IR book. If you’re reading more than one book for this quarter, the first test is due by Friday, September 28th.


Week 1


Monday
8/20     Finish reading and annotating “Eleven” if you haven’t done so already.

Tuesday
8/21     Brainstorm for your childhood memory. List a few possible topics and then start brainstorming details for one. Jot down as many sensory details as you can. You may list, web, or use your computer, but bring what you have done to class on Wednesday. Don’t forget to choose an IR book and get your Course Information sheet signed this week.

Wednesday
8/22     Continue working on your childhood memory. Be sure to add lots of sensory detail, dialogue, and metaphor so that your readers can see your memory. Due Monday, but bring what you have to class tomorrow. Try to write at least a page tonight.

Thursday
8/23     Finish writing the first draft of your childhood memory. This draft should be about 2 -3 pages (double spaced) Due Friday. Make sure your draft is ready to share in writing response groups. 

Friday
8/24     Read in your IR book. Aim to read about 70 pages per weekend, or 12 pages a night, in order to reach the A level by the end of the quarter without a last-minute crisis. If you’re reading more than one book for this quarter, the first test is due by Friday, September 28th. Work some on the second draft of your childhood memory—due Tuesday.
