Mrs. Tucker
About the Teacher....

Hello and welcome to 3rd Grade at La Vernia Intermediate.  My name is Mrs. Shirley Tucker and I will be your child’s English Language Arts Reading (ELAR) and Social Studies (SS) Teacher.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to be a teacher.  My Kindergarten, 3rd, and 7th grade teachers instilled in me a true love of learning and inspired me to become anyone and anything I wanted to be.

As a military spouse, I stayed home to raise my oldest child, but I have worked with children for nearly 20 years in various settings:  Sunday School, substitute teaching, and tutoring.  I became a certified teacher and have taught for nine years in the public school system.  This is my 2nd year at La Vernia ISD, but I came from East Central ISD (my alma mater) where I taught English Language Arts Reading and Social Studies, Special Education Resource and Inclusion Reading and Math, Read 180, and worked as a co-teacher in 4th and 5th grades.

My connection to the city of La Vernia is through my family (Gerlich / Ramzinski / Kosub).  My Grandpa Gerlich immigrated to La Vernia at the age of five, but as a young adult thought that La Vernia land was too sandy to farm, so he took his bride, Mary Ramzinski, and they headed west and bought 300 acres in Adkins to farm milo, maize, coastal, and peanuts.  My Grandpa Kosub was one of nine kids born in La Vernia, but headed to San Antonio for work as a mechanic.

My family consists of five biological brothers, two biological sisters, four foster-brothers, and three foster-sisters (I’m one of 15 kids!)  My real siblings and I am foster-children of the Freitag and Skloss families formerly of Martinez.

In my very rare spare time, I like to sew, design jewelry, research various topics, go mudding, play volleyball, travel to Fredericksburg (my Grandma Novian-Kosub’s hometown) and Schreiner University (my alma mater), but most of all, I love to spend time with my husband and kids.

I am married to my best friend, Mr. Billy Tucker, and together our mixed family consists of Dylan (16), Mikayla (14), Dylan (10), and Jett (4).  Yes, we have two Dylans!

I am a believer and have faith that your child can be anyone and anything they want to be when they grow up.  As a passionate lifelong learner, I hope that I can inspire your child to love learning, too.  I am excited to have the privilege to teach your child and I will work diligently to ensure that your child builds a strong educational foundation in my classroom.
