About Mrs. Maytum . . .

I have been teaching students at La Vernia High School since 2007. I am excited to be here and love teaching! Over the years I have been lucky to teach the subjects about which I am passionate: UT OnRamps Rhetoric, AP English Literature, AP English Language, English IV, English III, English II, Humanities, Independent Studies, and Government & Economics.

I have lived in La Vernia since 2008, but I am from Floresville, so I have been active in the La Vernia community all of my life. I am a 2001 graduate of Texas Lutheran University, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Political Science (Pre-Law). I am currently pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Creativity and Cognition from Texas A&M University. I am also a 3rd-year Mentor Instructor for UT OnRamps. My husband of 21 years, Mark, and I have two sons: Logan who is a sophomore at LVHS, and Carter who is a 7th grader at LVJH. We also have a 4-year-old cat, Jagger, whose favorite toy and sidekick is a Baby Bevo.

I am the UIL Ready Writing, UIL Literary Criticism, and UIL Social Studies coach. This year I will be teaching English IV and UT OnRamps Rhetoric 306 & 309J. I am looking forward to another great year at LVHS!
