English I Honors

Student Learning Outcomes Syllabus Honors

This course is designed to prepare students for all future studies in the English curriculum by providing them with a number of genre-based studies and skill-building strategies. The seven major units address the types of literature and non-fiction they will be expected to analyze--and in many instances create--by their graduation. Each genre possesses its content-specific language, literary terms/techniques, syntactic/format distinctions, and critical strategies; together, they share expectations with respect to the power of language. The course requires that all students will be able to read these various works independently, respond to each through various medium, distinguish them from one another, and share in the process with their peers.
