2020 Class Schedule Spanish 1 Spanish 2 AP Spanish Educational Philosophy A key to learning a foreign language is motivation. Additionally, it is essential to have an immersion experience where both teacher and student commit to speaking as much of the target language as possible within the classroom. For these reasons, I focus on delivering course content in Spanish and engage students through an enthusiastic, cultural approach. This enables my students to acquire language skills in a manner that keeps them interested and motivated and requires critical thinking. Students in our World Language Department at Lenape Valley develop a cultural awareness and appreciation of other communities while developing a deeper understanding of their very own community. Key elements of language learning in my classroom include promoting a positive learning environment, tapping into students' current knowledge and building upon it, using technology as a tool, and students taking ownership of their learning while thinking critically. | Lenape Valley Regional HS, 2005-present Governor's Teacher, 2014-15 MEDL, Thomas Edison State University 2012 MA Foreign Language Pedagogy, University of Delaware 2000 BA in Psychology, University of New Hampshire 1996 Universidad de Valladolid 1995 Contact Information email: eschuman@lvhs.org Phone: 973 347 7600 x3174 Classroom Expectations -Respect oneself, one's classmates, the teacher, classroom and academic environment -Arrive to class on time and prepared -Participate actively -Speak Spanish during class time -Follow all school policies pertaining to academic integrity, attendance, restroom procedures |
