On January 20, 2014, Luther College Students, Faculty, Staff and You will join the Decorah community in publicly reading Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" across the campus and in the community. Use this as an opportunity to ask yourself what your moral commitment is to your community and world, just as Dr. King did that day in Alabama.
To join us in reading the Letter, email Lauren Kientz Anderson at, fill in the form below, or come to our first rehearsal January 9, 2013 at 6:30pm in the Center For the Arts (CFA) Jewel Theater, where we will have free pizza. There will be two rehearsals--this common one with all the readers and then a small group one with your building leader to get used to the space in which you will be reading. Each reader will have a section of the Letter to read out loud and we will also experiment with reading parts of the letter in chorus. The building leader may choose to have the group sing two verses of "We Shall Overcome."
