Massachusetts Children's Book Award The Lunenburg Public Library and the T. C. Passios Elementary/Turkey Hill Middle School Libraries will be giving students a chance to have a vote in picking the winner for the Massachusetts Children’s Book Award!
The Massachusetts Children’s Book Award was founded in 1975 to encourage middle grade students to read. Every year, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders can choose from a master list of 25 titles selected by a committee of experts. Each student who reads (or has read to them) at least 5 books from the master list can then vote on their favorite. Students will place their vote at school by March 16, 2012, and the winner will be announced on April 2, 2012.
Mrs. Kemp from the public library and Mrs. Whipple from T. C. Passios/Turkey Hill will have copies of the books available at their respective libraries. Monthly discussion groups will be held at the Lunenburg Public Library from 3:30-4:30 (9/29, 10/27, 11/17, 12/15, 1/26, and 2/12). We’ll have a party once the winner is announced, that date is TBA.
The award is sponsored by Salem State University.
For more information contact Mrs. Whipple at the schools, or Mrs. Kemp at the Public Library.
