Summer Newsletter:
Hello Friends, Supporters, Acitivists, Co-opers, and People of Faith!

Welcome to the summer edition of the Lucy Stone Cooperative newsletter. We’ve been keeping busy at LSC, even as some of us are traveling for the summer. We wanted to be sure and introduce you to our housemates, and make sure that you knew about an upcoming opportunity to live at the Lucy Stone Co-op. There are other chances to join us at the house and at our big annual celebration & fundraiser. A special thanks to those of you who joined us at our last work day and at our reception at General Assembly; we enjoyed meeting and seeing you!

"Living Their Values Cooperatively"
Article in UUWorld, by Michelle Bates Deakin

It’s a cold March night in Boston. But inside the Lucy Stone house, there’s a feeling of Thanksgiving in the air. Chairs of assorted sizes, stools, and even a tall drum are crowded around two dining room tables pushed together to form a T. Tapered candles and a flaming chalice cast a warm glow over the mismatched glasses, mugs, and place settings for sixteen.

April/May Newsletter:
Dear Friends, Supporters, Co-opers, and People of Faith,

With the coming of our first spring at the Lucy Stone Cooperative, we’ve been enjoying watching the garden unfold itself to us.  The forsythia bushes with their flaming yellow flowers, a single red tulip that popped up.  Our community is also continuing to emerge, with programs like our Sunday singing, movie and mending nights, and faith-sharing groups popping up, and another successful leadership development training.  We hope to see you sometime soon!

Leadership Training on April 23rd

The Lucy Stone Cooperative will be hosting a day-long leadership development training on popular education as an interactive and dynamic way to draw out the resources and gifts of our membership in order to address the challenges of our wider communities. The day will be facilitated by trainers from the Highlander Center, a renowned popular education center that served to train core leaders of the union movement of the 30's and the civil rights movement of the 60's.

Saturday, April 23rd from 9am-5pm at the UU Urban Ministry (10 Putnam st. Roxbury, MA)
Cost: $25 (3rd person from your organization is free!)
Breakfast and lunch are included.

The day will include an opportunity to:
-Learn and share tools for social justice organizing
-Acknowledge our membership's resources to realize current organizing capacity
-Use storytelling to build relationships and  live out common values.
-Learn tools for expanding the reach of our cooperative movement.
-Learn skills for expanding the social justice work of liberal congregations

Dear Friends,

June has come and gone with many blessings.  Our first Solidarity Supper was a success, with an abundance of good food and conversation shared by many.  As we continue to receive questions about Lucy Stone and who she was, read the article below about her and the politics of her time around pay for work done by women.  Lastly, we extend our gratitude for some of the gifts shared with us this month, including you all bringing our events to life and our first congregational investor!

April 2010 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

We're continuing to keep busy!  We've launched the start of our programming, with our first leadership training last month, and we're getting ready for our next events--Solidarity Suppers (more info below).  Deciding to meet more frequently as a whole planning team has given us more time to have philosophical decisions about what we're doing.  This past month, we watched Race: The Power of an Illusion and discussed the history of US policies around housing, race, class, and gender.  More recently, we learned about and shared are own families stories about housing.  What are our own families' stories?  What influenced their decisions around housing?  As we're continuing our the search for the Lucy Stone Co-op house, we're deliberately engaging in conversations around the ethics of the house and neighborhood we will be joining. Read on to learn the latest news about LSC and ways you can get involved!

March 2010 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

We recently returned from a Lucy Stone Co-op Planning Team retreat at a beautiful cabin in Western Massachusetts.  It was a wonderful opportunity to dig deeper into many of the topics we've been discussing lately and to spend a weekend living together.  Things are ramping up for us as we leap into spring, getting ready to host a leadership development training with three of our inspiring partner organizations this weekend and with our real estate search already underway.

February 2010 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

As we enter into the second month of 2010, we wanted to share with you some reflections looking back and looking ahead. At this time last year, the Lucy Stone Coop (LSC) Planning Team had not yet been formed. In these past several months, we’ve made significant process in shaping our common vision and putting it into reality. We are excited to announce that we are getting ready to begin our housing search! As a cooperative, we are crafting a democratic process for finding a house that best suits our needs, and our “Real Estate Committee” will lead us through the process.
