Dates

Tuesday, 30th November 2010 - Thursday, 2nd December 2010.

Invited Overseas Speakers

  • Dmitrii Alekseevskii (University of Edinburgh, UK).
D.Alekseevski will give two (or possibly three) talks: "Homogeneous Lorentz spaces", "Classification of invariant generalised complex structures (in the sense of Hitchin) on semisimple Lie groups", and, possibly, a talk on generalised geometries.
  • Jorge Lauret (University of Cordoba, Argentina).

J.Lauret will give two talks: "Ricci flow for homogeneous manifolds" and "Ricci solitons". Abstract: "We study an ODE for a curve of Lie brackets whose solutions are, up to pullback by time-dependent diffeomorphisms, the Ricci flows starting at any homogeneous Riemannian manifold. As an application, one obtains that the Ricci flow starting at a nilmanifold satisfies very nice and special properties. We shall describe in the talk some work in progress on which of such properties hold in general for homogeneous spaces, specially solvmanifolds. Concerning Ricci solitons, we will define algebraic solitons by generalizing the concept of a nilsoliton and give an overview of what is known in the homogeneous case, including some conjectures."

    Support

This event is sponsored by the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI). AMSI allocates a travel allowance annually to each of its member universities. Students or early career researchers from AMSI member universities without access to a suitable research grant or other source of funding may apply to their Head of Department or Head of Discipline for subsidy of travel, accommodation and registration fee for out of the departmental travel allowance. Please consult the AMSI travel account procedure for further details.
