Sharon Pohly will be teaching EGE 2231, Project Management for Entrepreneurial Engineers this Spring 2011 semester. Basic concepts are project management tools, fundamentals of team building, project risk analysis, tracking, measuring, and controlling projects, project closeout, budgets, and business cultural issues. The course concentrates on the information required to identify project participants, goals ,objectives, activities, and constraints. Quantitative methods include network diagrams, Gantt charts, CPM scheduling, activity duration compression, project activity optimization, activity analysis, cost and schedule performance indices, and cost estimating. Active learning is utilizing with a combination of teaching and learning techniques, including lecture, discussions, reading, case studies, guest lectures, and hands-on projects. This course is intended for only undergraduate engineering students.
The College of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering will offer a new online course this Spring. EME 6553 - Structural Stability, taught by Pattabhi Sitaram, is concerned with the analysis of flexible members. Linear and nonlinear buckling of beams, beam columns, frames, arches, plates, and complicated structural systems. Post buckling behavior of steel structures. Energy and numerical methods to solution of buckling problems.
