Nutrition Project

Mastery Objective:  You will be able to compare your food intake with the dietary guidelines and recommendations of an online nutrition tracker to aid in making smart food choices.

Part 1: CRONOMETER - Record your food and exercise for all days in the system

      • Sign in using your Lenape Google account
      • Click on the 1st date of your recording of food/exercise
        • Click on ADD FOOD
          • Search for all foods and drinks you ate for that day
          • Include all meals and snacks
          • Select the size and quantity for each item
        • Click on ADD EXERCISE
          • Search for all exercise you did on that day
          • Enter the amount of time you exercised
        • WHEN COMPLETED FOR THE DAY, PRINT OUT THE PAGE (this will include the charts analyzing your food intake)
      • Click on the 2nd date 
        • Click on ADD FOOD
          • Search for all foods and drinks you ate for that day
          • Include all meals and snacks
          • Select the size and quantity for each item
        • Click on ADD EXERCISE
          • Search for all exercise you did on that day
          • Enter the amount of time you exercised
        • WHEN COMPLETED FOR THE DAY, PRINT OUT THE PAGE (this will include the charts analyzing your food intake)
      • Click on the 3rd date
        • Click on ADD FOOD
          • Search for all foods and drinks you ate for that day
          • Include all meals and snacks
          • Select the size and quantity for each item
        • Click on ADD EXERCISE
          • Search for all exercise you did on that day
          • Enter the amount of time you exercised
        • WHEN COMPLETED FOR THE DAY, PRINT OUT THE PAGE (this will include the charts analyzing your food intake
      • SUMMARY ANALYSIS CHART
        • Click on TRENDS
        • Select NUTRITION REPORT
        • Enter the dates you recorded information
        • Print out the summary statistics page
      • Before moving on to part 2, you should ensure that all of your food and exercise are entered for all days and you have a printout of the nutritional information for each day AS WELL AS THE SUMMARY NUTRITIONAL REPORT.
      • You MUST also have your FOOD LOG printed out


Part 2: Essay - reflection and analysis of your eating and exercise habits 

On a separate piece of paper, answer the following questions in complete sentences.  Your responses should be 2 pages typed. Answer the following questions within your essay.  Use MLA format.  Include an introduction and conclusion. 

      • Are all days typical of your normal eating patterns?  Yes or no, and please explain in detail.  
      • Provide your overall opinion of the project and discuss the knowledge gained from the food exploration.  For each of the 5 food groups (grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy, proteins), discuss nutritional value of the food group. See food exploration!  
      • See your charts/printouts for calories, macronutrients and nutrients:  
        • Did you reach your target levels?  Why or why not?  Were you over or under?  Why do you think this was the case?
        • Look at the energy, protein, carbs and fat details.  How did you do in regard to these macronutrients?
        • Look at vitamins and minerals.  How was your intake of these?
        • What is your BMR (be sure to include the number you calculated in class)?  How did your total calories match up to your BMR ?  Do you eat enough?  Too much?
        • How will you use this knowledge to make changes to your eating patterns?  Write a specific plan for specific foods and what meals will you eat them. 
      • Do you exercise 4-6 times a week?  For how long?  What are your fitness goals? 
  • SUBMIT the following:
    • ALL Analysis printouts from Cronometer
    • copy of your food log
    • your BMR number
    • Essay/reflection
