Suicide Squad

by Janet Soto

Suicide Squad is a movie that came out in 2016. As soon as the movie trailer was released, there was many people who were waiting anxiously for the movie to come out. I remember wanting to really see it when I saw the trailer also, but I didn’t see it until way later. Either way, I still found it to be really great. Some people were disappointed with the movie, but it was a ‘decent’ success overall. I definitely would recommend it so that everyone else could get their own opinion on it.

The movie was not only full of action, but it also contained plenty of humor. The movie was two hours and three minutes long. It was filmed in a few places, depending on the scenes. A "snowstorm" scene was filmed on April 29 on the Adelaide St. and in Ching Lane. On May 5, a few major scenes were filmed in downtown Toronto next to Yonge and Dundas Square. Principal photography for the movie was finished in August 2015. As for movie characters, there was Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Joker (Jared Leto), Batman (Ben Affleck), Deadshot (Will Smith), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye) as the main ones.

The plot was very basic as was clear by the summary of it provided. It’s summary read, “It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super-Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?”.

I asked my classmate, Kassidee, what she thought about the movie and she said she liked it but it also wasn’t the best. She said she was expecting a lot more action from it, and I also was thinking the same thing. She brought up how she was happy there was plenty of scenes of the Joker and Harley Quinn, which I also loved. Personally, those two were my favorite characters in the whole movie. Therefore, I shared a lot of the same views with Kassidee when it came to this movie.

Overall, it was a decent movie. I had mixed feelings about it. I really liked it, but I also really didn’t. I can’t quite decide what side to chose because there was so many negatives and positives to it. I would recommend it to others either way, so then they could tell for themselves whether it’s good or not. I feel as though the movie could have had more action and a more interesting plot. The whole villains-becoming-heroes was really interesting though. The movie wasn’t that successful, but many still liked it. So, after all, it didn’t completely fail.
