Welcome back!

Dear readers,

Welcome back to The Valley Press! We are please to present the first issue of Volume 3. We will be publishing every other Friday until the end of the school year. This semester we have a new group of twenty-nine writers (juniors and seniors) who bring with them a variety of skills and a wide range of interests. Our focus this semester will be on honing what Tony Wagner calls "The Seven Survival Skills" in his book The Global Achievement Gap. These skills are critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration across networks and leading by influence, agility and adaptability, initiative and entrepreneurialism, effective oral and written communication, accessing and analyzing information, and curiosity and imagination. By focusing on these skills, we are working to provide the students with transferable skills that will help them succeed no matter where life after high school takes them.

We hope you enjoy our first issue and stay with us throughout the semester so we can show you our growth as writers! As always, please do not hesitate to share any feedback (or even write response articles). The best way to share that is via email to: creuss@lqpv.org.

Very Sincerely,
Charlene Reuss

**Editor's Note: I very rarely make any changes to student writing before publishing; the articles you read are authentic student writing. We conduct peer review and I provide feedback for writers before publishing, but as writers, the final editing decisions are theirs.**
