Meet Mrs. Shaffer

Hello to all my amazing students and their families. Thank you for the privilege of teaching your children!

Personal

I have been married to my amazing husband, Bill, for 30 years.

We have two great children, Will (19 ) and Gail (18 ). Both attended LPCS from Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Professional

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Wyoming and then my Master degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. I moved to Colorado and began working in the mental health field as an individual and family counselor for high risk youth. I worked in that field for 3 years until I obtained my license as a professional counselor. I took the next 7 years off to be at home with my children and made a decision at that point to use my skills in a different way. I wanted to be available to my children and in the mental health field much of the time appointments are in the evenings or on the weekends... not much time for my own children. I made the decision to work in education. I love being a first grade teacher. It is amazing to me what sponges children are and how they really are excited about life and everything it has to offer. After working in the mental health side of things, I appreciate what a significant role teachers and mentors are to students as they work their way up through the ranks of school.

My passion as a teacher is meeting children where they are and teaching to their needs. I really do count it a privilege to spend the time I do with each and every one of your children present, past or future. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do something I love!

Our family also includes our 13year old dog, Rosebud and 13 year old cat, Mask.

I love to read, be creative (color, quilt, etc.) when I have time and spend time out in the sunshine.
