The Teacher Cadet program is an innovative approach designed to attract talented young people to the teaching profession through a challenging introduction to teaching. The program provides high school students insight into the nature of teaching, and the critical issues affecting the quality of education in America's schools.
Make A Difference...Teach!
Students in the Teacher Cadets program explore how people learn, how schools operate, and what it's like to be a teacher. Teacher Cadets learn through creative hands-on activities, guest speakers, field trips, classroom observations, research, and job shadowing. second semester, students will work closely with a cooperating teacher for 12 weeks in a mini-student teaching experience (90 hours). This includes helping children one-on-one or in large groups, planning lessons, grading, creating and teaching. Cadets develop a professional portfolio that gives them a head-start on college. Concurrent Enrollment is available through CSU Pueblo.
All students will participate in FCCLA, a national student leadership organization. Students will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills through class and community projects, participate in the State competition, and attend conferences.

There are tremendous opportunities in the field of education for today's youth. An estimated 2.2 million new teachers will be needed within the next ten years in the United States. The Colorado Education Association predicts a great need for teachers within the next five years, with the estimated retirement of 10,000 teachers and a continuing boom in population.
