Welcome from the Principal

Dear Lake Park Family,

I am delighted to be the principal at one of Georgia's most distinguished elementary schools. I was named principal of Lake Park Elementary in the Fall of 2016. I am increasingly grateful to be surrounded by such motivated, smart, and caring staff and students. Together with parents and community members, we work hard to strengthen LPES's reputation as a unique, rigorous, and successful learning organization.

On behalf of the outstanding LPES staff, I am proud to say 'Welcome Back'. This 2017-18 school year is going to be our best yet! We hope that you will quickly feel at home and become connected to your child's classroom and involved with the PTO in its many projects throughout the year.

As an educational team, we at Lake Park Elementary are dedicated to academic excellence and holding high expectations. Our goal is for each and every student to be a successful learner.

Teachers monitor each student's academic progress by conducting regular benchmark assessments to determine each student's level of mastery and need for academic support. We offer intervention programs to assist students in becoming proficient readers and writers. We believe that if children are fluent readers at an early age, they will have the opportunity for more success in the future. We also offer math support for students who struggle with mathematical concepts. Each class participates in at least one field trip each year, to support the learning concepts in the classroom.

We are committed to creating a safe and positive learning environment. We are proud to have a Lowndes County Sheriff's deputy on campus full time. Along with academic excellence, LPES is also committed to the social and emotional needs. We believe that communication between home and school is crucial to success. Listed here are some commonly used forms of communications of our students. We promote and model responsible, respectful behavior in order to provide each student with the best learning opportunity. We offer site-based counseling and classroom guidance to help students form positive relationships. We strive to engage students through the use of various means of technology. Each classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard. The school is equipped with Wi-Fi. Third, fourth, and fifth graders each have a Chromebook that they use for learning. Younger students have access to iPad that make learning fun.

  • Since teachers have limited access to telephones during the day, email is the preferred method of communication.
  • The school will send automated calls when school-wide events are taking place, your child's cafeteria balance is low, or the number of absences are getting numerous. Please be sure we have your most current phone numbers in our computer system.
  • In addition to email, many teachers also utilize an app called "Remind", that allows them to send group text messages to all their subscribers. So if you get an invitation to add yourself to this group texting feature. Your personal cell number is kept private.
  • Lake Park Elementary has a Facebook page where reminders and special events are regularly posted.
  • The LPES PTO also has a Facebook page to keep you up-to-date with their initiatives and activities.

LPES has a very involved and supportive Parent Teacher Organization. This group helps our school by providing
volunteers, helping on field trips, hosting community events, and helping out
whenever there is a need. Please be sure to visit their page on this website and join the LPES PTO Facebook page.

Hope to see you soon,

Mrs. Tanner
