Meet Mrs. Hamel

Welcome to 8th grade English language arts!  My name is Alison Hamel.  This year is my sixth year teaching 8th grade ELA at Pine Grove Middle and my seventh year working for Lowndes County Schools.  I love what I do!

I was born and raised in Valdosta, GA and attended Lowndes County Schools from kindergarten through twelfth grade.  I am definitely a true Viking (and Georgia Bridgemen) fan!
I graduated from the University of Florida with bachelor's degrees in English and Classical Studies and from Valdosta State University with a master's degree in Secondary English Education.  I have participated in the Blackwater Writing Project (our local site of the National Writing Project), where I learned innovative strategies to teach writing and have even presented to new fellows!
I am married.  My husband and I have a cat named Keats (after my favorite British poet), a cat named Flea, and a dog named Cookie.
I love reading, listening to music, drinking coffee, watching Viking and Gator football, and spending time with my fabulous family and friends.
