WIT: Workforce Industry Training

The Workforce Industry Training (WIT) program empowers future professionals to learn about career opportunities from the inside out. NPI, secondary schools and industry have created WIT to provide high school students with the tools, academic support and mentoring needed to pursue educational and career opportunities related to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects.

As a WIT participant, you don’t read about what jobs are like — you experience them for yourself. WIT provides application to what is learned in the classroom by taking students into the professional world.

Students in the WIT program: • Enjoy mentoring activities by industry professionals. • Visit local industry partners.• Participate in industry job shadowing. • Take part in professional development activities. • Tour universities and community colleges. • Participate in community service. • Hear from and meet guest speakers. • Have access to scholarship opportunities.

WIT participants learn by doing. WIT members capitalize on these opportunities by giving themselves a head start into a STEM career. And, in many cases, careers pursue them.

The WIT program is open to junior and senior Texas high school students at least 14 years old with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Participants must be a U.S. citizen or a non-citizen authorized to work in the United States with an interest in pursuing a STEM technical degree. Other application requirements include: • Formally submit an application for membership. • If male, meet U.S. Military Selective Service registration requirements. • If female, not be concurrently participating in the POWER SET program.
