About Me:

My name is Kerrie Swepston, and this is my 22nd year teaching science. I have a zoology degree from Texas A&M and received my secondary teaching certification from UMHB. My first career was as a zookeeper at the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler, but in 1995 I returned to UMHB for a year of education courses and student teaching at Temple High School. I have 21 years of experience, 8 of those at Lorena HS.

I am married to Wade Swepston and have two wonderful children ages 19 and 11. My son is a sophomore at Texas Tech, and my daughter is a 5th grader at LES. Our family enjoys camping, boating, and traveling. We particularly like playing at the beach or trips to our family ranch in the panhandle.
My goal for this year is to prepare students for success in the biology course work and have a ton of fun while we prepare! This freshman-sophomore biology 1 course is extremely challenging due to the amount of material we must cover, and now with the EOC testing, it will also require a much deeper understanding of concepts and critical thought.
I also teach AP biology. This course will align with college-level biology curriculum and will require dedication to preparing for the College Board AP exam in May.

AP Biology has summer assignments to help us get through some of the basic material prior to our first day of classes. This will allow us to have more time for labs and be ready for the AP test May 13th.
