Biography

It is I, George Eastman, I invented the Kodak camera. I was born on July 12,1854 in Waterville, New York. I was born on a farm that my parents owned and was the youngest child in the family. After my father got sick my family sold the farm. My father died when I was 8 years old. then my sister died of polio when I was 16 years old. I dropped out of school to help my mother with the finances. My mother worked very hard. I wanted to pay her back once I made money of my own.

At the age of 24 I had planned a trip to Santo Domingo and I wanted to document the trip. I purchased photography equipment that was very heavy and very expensive. I ended up not going on my trip but instead wanted to figure out how to lighten the equipment so that anyone could use it.

In 1884, I invented the rolled film. In 1892 I established the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester New York.

I was born in 1854. Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States in 1860. 1861 was the start of the Civil War. The was ended in 1865 and after that the country was recovery from the was.

I never married but I was very close to my mother and my sisters family.
