PTA Membership & Leadership

PTA Membership: Thank you for your interest in joining the Longfellow Elementary School PTA. When LOES PTA gets involved, children benefit. When you get involved with LOES PTA, the child who benefits most is your own.

Please complete the membership form below, hard copies also available in the office, and return it to the front office at the school along with your dues payment of $10.00 for one (1) parent/guardian/staff member or $20.00 for two (2) parents/guardians/family. Payment for membership is accepted by cash, check or credit card via the option below or in person at most PTA functions.

PTA Leadership:  Now seeking interest for PTA Officers for the 2018-19 School Year! The goal of the nominating committee is to enlist the talents of as many LOES parents and family members as possible. The nominating committee's responsibility is to consider all persons nominated for a particular PTA position. All nominations should be received by May 2nd. PTA officer elections will take place at the General Meeting on May 9 at 7pm. Officer position descriptions can be found below.

Who can serve as an officer or board member?  PTA members (dues paid).

What is required of PTA officers and board members? 
  • Enthusiasm and interest in serving the LOES community.
  • Must be a current member of the PTA.
  • Must be willing to regularly attend PTA meetings and fulfill responsibilities of position.
  • Must attend annual budget meeting.
  • Certain positions, like Treasurer, will require a one-time training and/or attendance at other meetings. 

What is required of each position?  Summaries of the open officer positions for the 2018/19 school year. Full position descriptions are attached below.

  • President - Creates meeting agenda, runs meetings, ensures compliance, supports PTA positions.
  • First Vice President -acts as aide to President, presides at meetings in the absence of the President, assumes the duties of the President in the event of resignation until the position is filled per bylaws
  • Second Vice President -acts as aide to President, be familiar with meeting protocols
  • Treasurer - responsible for managing PTA funds, maintaining financial records, developing budget for board approval
  • Recording Secretary - takes meeting minutes and provides to PTA membership, also retains all official documents of the PTA.
  • Corresponding Secretary - maintain all correspondence for the PTA, notifying members of meetings and events, and communicating PTA news via US postal, email, social media, flyers, newsletter, PTA calendar, school bulletin board
