Beginner Band - 6th Grade

What an exciting time! We witness the joy of learning every day as these young musicians begin their journey into music making. Each instrument grouping is taught separately with a pedagogical focus on attaining a solid fundamental base. The instrument groups combine for three annual performances: Band-O-Rama; Holiday Concert; and Spring Concerts. Students also participate in Solo and Ensemble Contest in the spring. These and other performances throughout the year are a glorious display of musical talent.

Symphonic Band

The focus of our Symphonic Band is to improve and create mature musical sounds as individual and ensemble players. This ensemble is open to 7th and 8th grade students by audition.  There is a convergence of musical information and ability to guide students to deeper discovery of music. Performances during the year include: annual fall, holiday and spring concerts; Band-O-Rama; JH pep rallies; 2-3 JH football games; Solo and Ensemble Contest; Pre-UIL Concert; and UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest.

Concert Band

While students are combined into one ensemble of 7th and 8th grade students, each student continues to improve their musicianship as well as grow as a student of the arts. During the fall, students are introduced to the Region Band audition process that is in competition with middle school students from Pflugerville to San Marcos. They also learn Pep Band music to perform at football games and pep rallies. The 7th Grade Band performs at the: annual fall, holiday and spring concerts; Band-O-Rama; Solo and Ensemble Contest; Pre-UIL Concert; and their first UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest.

Jazz Ensemble

This volunteer ensemble rehearses after school hours. The Jazz Ensemble is an excellent opportunity to learn about a true American art form---Jazz. Instrumentation includes: Saxophones; Trombones; Trumpets and a Rhythm Section (piano, bass, guitar, and drum set). Students will learn basic jazz fundamentals, different jazz styles such as swing, ballad, funk, and bebop; and improvisation. This ensemble performs at regularly scheduled Band Concerts, school events, and within Lockhart sharing their music with our community.
