Letter from the Principal
Dear Families and Friends,
Welcome to our website! We are honored by your interest in our school. In the summer of 2010, we moved our middle school, then named Greenwich Village Middle School, from the PS 3 building in the West Village to our present location in the Financial District. Our 12 years in the West Village were wonderful, but the opportunities afforded to our students and their families in our new facility have enabled us to provide a diverse and inspiring educational program for our students in state of the art classrooms.
It is our belief that students entering middle school should have a wide variety of excellent educational experiences, and therefore we do not focus on or emphasize a single curriculum. Rather, our students participate in an educational program that pairs incredible learning opportunities in the core subjects with an expansive arts curriculum. Currently 70% of our students are participating in After School programs that can extend their school day for an additional two hours. Aside from a requested donation, these programs are offered free of charge. All students start After School with an academic enrichment period and study hall before starting clubs and activities. Currently our after school clubs include programs such as: soccer, basketball, fencing, visual arts, music, dance, cooking, chess, table tennis and many more!
We are inspired by our collective school vision: “At Lower Manhattan Community Middle School we get to know our students and we give them what they need to be successful.” We hold this belief for all students, regardless of whether they excel academically or need support.
We invite you to view our mission in action, as well as our three school motto: Be kind! Be safe! Work hard!
Mr. Kelly McGuire
