We are continuing the implementation of the LCSD math program which is called My Math.  This program is aligned with the Common Core.  The objectives taught are as follows:

  • place value
  • convert metric measurement
  • expressions
  • multiplying whole numbers
  • dividing
  • add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals
  • fractions and decimals
  • add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions
  • geometry and volume
  • patterns and ordered pairs
Students are expected to complete all assignments in a timely manner.
Grades are based upon homework and class work, quizzes, tests, participation and overall effort.

Suggestions to help your child gain mastery of the fifth grade objectives are as follows:  practice basic math facts, review math vocabulary, provide assistance with homework and help your child review for each unit test.


Students are expected to read a minimum of 20 minutes everyday. 

Students journal about their independent reading and participate in Lucy Calkins Writing Workshop. 

Spelling words, assignments, and a test will be given weekly.  Grammar work will be incorporated into the spelling packets.

Book projects will be assigned throughout the school year.  These projects will be based on a specific genre.  A good portion of these projects are to be completed outside of school.
