English Nine

In the ninth-grade English course of study, instructional and assessment strategies build upon each student’s middle school ELA experience. Essential questions are used to set the focus of and lend connectivity to the program. The goal is to stimulate the development of each student’s cognitive skills. The intention is to help each student build skills to foster a level of independence in preparation for the rigorous educational tasks mandated by the ELA standards at the high school level. In turn, each student experiences success as he or she engages in meaningful reading, writing, speaking and listening activities that will serve the student well as a life-long learner. The strategies and techniques used in classroom activities are designed to promote the growth of each student's ELA skills.
