Thoughts on the Run

Thought for the Week...from Coach J

Coaches who have attended my clinic sessions or who have come to watch our practices sometimes ask me why we do some of the odd movements in our Gravity Constant Series.  
One example of this is lateral skips.  
What we know is that top runners typically run with their hips and shoulders more square to their direction of travel, and they achieve what is referred as a neutral pelvis.
In lateral skips, runners must generate enough force laterally--even when their center of mass is ahead of their driving leg-- in order to maintain that squared position and to maintain separation between the legs so that the recovery leg does not cross over the plant leg.
