This Spring in Lincoln Wrestling

This Spring in Lincoln Wrestling

Following the high school season, team captain Kyle Cavalli, was named to the KWCA Senior Academic 1st Team.  What an amazing award for a fantastic young man.

Just want to mention that our jh squad finished the season at the Minneapolis Tournament where we placed all eleven of our wrestlers entered.  The future of our program is very bright.

Just because the JH and HS seasons have come to a close does not mean that things are still happening.

Sophomore Tia Hayworth who missed the hs season with a spiral fracture to her pinky was released by her doctor in time to compete in the USAW-Kansas Girls State tournament where she placed 3rd.  This is her 2nd year in a row to place!

Seventh graders, Tyler Walford and Chantz Vath each placed at regional, Vath was the champion, and qualified for the USAW-Kansas State Folkstyle tournament.  Each garnered all-state honors with Walford placing 5th  and Vath bringing home 6th.

Senior wrestler Rocky Krueger a 1x state qualifier signed with Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS to continue his wrestling career under Coach Cody Garcia.  Congratulations to him and his parents!

This summer the squad will have the opportunity to improve by wrestling in the Salina Summer League, Sunflower State Games, at open mat, and by attending the team camp in Council Grove June 22-23.  They will also have the opportunity to participate in the summer strength and conditioning program where they can build strength, increase flexibility, become more explosive, and minimize inseason injury.

Lincoln Wrestling  wants to thank you all for keeping up with our program and wish you a wonderful Spring!!

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling: Regional & JH Beloit Competitions Edition

posted Feb 27, 2015, 12:38 PM by Coach Naasz

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling

All season with the high school program we work toward peeking at the regional tournament and I can honestly report that we did peak at the right time.  Our kids went out and competed in each and every match and showed so much heart and improvement at the 321A Russell Regional!  Freshman  Jonathan Ahring (106) along with seniors Rocky Krueger (120) and Dalton Junek (152) were all one match away from qualifying for state but lost in the consolations semifinals, otherwise know as the "bloodround".  Our two other wrestlers competing at the regional meet were sophomore Nate Feldkamp (285) and senior team captian, Kyle Cavalli (170).

We can not express how much our seniors mean to us and to our program.  They will forever be leopard wrestlers!

The junior high program continued its competition by traveling to Beloit last Thursday to face Beloit, Ellsworth, and Republic Co, then returned to Beloit on Monday to compete against grapplers from Beloit, Southeast of Saline, and Bennington.  The best way to describe this group of energetic young wrestlers is the "Blue Wave" as our numbers are fantastic with fifteen kids out and our kids continue to find a tremendous amount of success on the mat.  Even better, our kids continue to have a very coachable spirit and are improving with each practice and competition.

The junior high season will be completing it's season this coming week with matches on Monday, Thursday, and Friday.

March 2 @ Smoky Valley  4:30 pm
March 5 @ Southeast of Saline 4:30pm
March 6 @ Minneapolis 4:30 pm

The focus for this week is "Be Reliable".  As we work toward "Living A Championship Lifestyle" we know that it is important to let people know that we can stand up and be counted as people who can be trusted to do what we have committed to.

This has been a great season so far and I want to thank you for continuing to support our program!  Have a fantastic weekend.

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling: Sr. Night & JH Opening Night Edition

posted Feb 17, 2015, 12:18 PM by Coach Naasz

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling

Last Thursday night we celebrated our seniors and their parents during the Leopard Round Robin.  What an emotional time as many memories of our time with them come flooding back.  Our program is a family and it is so amazing to be apart of these kid's life as they develop into stellar young men and women.

We had a great night of competition Thursday with five wrestlers entered and had all five of them make their way to the medal stand.  This was a fantastic way for us to wrap up the regular season.  This Friday (2pm) and Saturday (11am) we will travel to Russell for the 321A Regional tournament where the top four wrestlers will qualify for the state tournament in Hays.

106 Jonathan Ahring (9)  1st
120 Rocky Krueger (12)  3rd
152 Dalton Junek (12)  2nd
170 Kyle Cavalli (12)  3rd
285 Nate Feldkamp (10)  2nd

Last night our junior high squad opened their competition schedule by hosting SJMS in a dual.  The kids did a GREAT job.  It was apparent that they were attempting to apply the technique that we have been drilling the past two weeks.

The junior high will head to Beloit this Thursday (5pm) for a meet with Beloit, Ellsworth, and Republic Co.

This week's focus is "Be Persevering"  and man does this sum up our kids!!  With all the adversity we have encountered with injury and illness our kids have never skipped a beat.  They continue to inspire the coaching staff with their amazing mindset.

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling: Panther Classic Edition

posted Feb 10, 2015, 12:34 PM by Coach Naasz

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling

Last Friday we wrapped up our first week of the junior high season.  It is so much fun to watch the high school wrestlers coach the junior high squad.  We spent the majority of the week really stressing proper stance, standups, arm-drags, breakdowns, inside cradles as well as the Mill's 1/2 nelson.

On Saturday, the high school squad made the trip to NW Kansas to participate in the Panther Classic hosted by Phillipsburg High School.  While temperatures soared to 80 degrees outside, both gyms were busy with great wrestling action.  It was great to see the strides that each wrestler made during the day.  The only placer for the squad was Nate Feldkamp who went 2-2 and garnered a 3rd place finish in the 285 jv tournament.

This week the high school squad will be busy hosting the Leopard Round Robin on Thursday night.  We will also celebrate our Seniors and their parents right before the final round of the tournament. Teams attending this year are, Stafford, St. John's Military, Stockton, Osborne, and Manhattan.  If you are free please come out and support the squad.  if you are unable to attend you can view online at the following links.  First whistle is at 4:00 pm.

Mat 1   -   Mat 2

Saturday, the JV squad will be heading east to the Chapman JV Tournament where they will see teams like Junction City, Abilene, Clay Center.  This event is always a great way for us to close out our regular season.

The focus for this week is "Be Accountable".  Each day we are accountable to those around us and we can achieve so much if we commit to holding ourselves and our teammates at their word.

May you have a wonderful week!!!

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling - Red Cloud Edition

posted Feb 3, 2015, 9:49 AM by Coach Naasz

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling

Cold temperatures and blowing snow did not get in our way this weekend as we made the trek to Red Cloud, NE for the Warcat Invite.  It was a fantastic event that was completed by 3:45pm and each of our four wrestlers placed in the top four.  It was apparent that our week of preparation paid off as the squad did a great job of implementing the corrections stressed during practice.

106 Jonathan Ahring (9)  4th Place
120 Rocky Krueger (12)  4th Place
152 Dalton Junek (12)  3rd Place
285 Nate Feldkamp (10) 4th Place

This week is a special week in our season as the junior high season kicks off.  Numbers are looking to be great with approx. 15 kids joining the squad.  We love this time as our high school wrestlers mentor and coach the junior high grapplers.  The JH will first compete on Feb. 16 at home vs St. John's Military School.

This week we are preparing for the always tough Panther Classic hosted by Phillipsburg.  Many of the best teams in NW Kansas will be in attendance among others.  We really enjoy this meet as it has a junior varsity meet in one gym and a varsity meet in the main gym.  It is so nice to take the entire squad to one location and get them matches they need as we close in on the regional tournament.

The focus for this week is "Be Conscientious"  as we continue to strive to find glory in the details of our daily life.  Wrestling and life both can be a struggle at times, but if we are conscientious about our work and our relationships we will be better able to find success.

Please have a wonderful week!!

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling: Beloit Invite/Stafford JV Tournament Edition

posted Jan 26, 2015, 8:30 AM by Coach Naasz

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling

Can you believe that we are now in the eleventh week of the season?!?  It is amazing how fast the time goes.  Over the weekend we had kids competing in two different competitions.  Due to injury and illness, Dalton Junek #152, was our lone representative in the ultra competitive 45th Beloit Invite.  Dalton wrestled hard and represented LJSHS amazingly while missing the medal rounds by one match.  His two losses eventually placed 4th and 5th respectively.  A big shout out to Beloit High for hosting such an awesome event here in NCK!!

In Stafford, the jv squad wrestled very well with both Jonathan Ahring #106, and Nate Feldkamp #285, picking up wins against a wide variety of schools that we typically do not see during the season.  Coach Knapp was so very excited about the improvements that both wrestlers made through the day.

Please keep Christopher Hester in your thoughts and prayers as last Thursday night he dislocated his right pinky and ruptured a ligament ending his season much earlier than he wanted.

This Saturday we travel to the land of corn, or Red Cloud, NE for the annual Warcat Invite.  We look forward to this event every year for many reason.  It is the only chance prior to state where our athletes participate in a shoulder to shoulder weigh in.  They also run their tournament at a frantic pace and it really makes our squad focus and make sure they are loose and ready to go.  It is also great to see teams from Nebraska and experience a very different and super physical style of wrestling.  You will be able to follow the tournament online with the link below.

The focus for this week is "Be Helpful".  We sometimes forget that there may be a time in the future where we will need help, and that the present is always a great time to help those around you.  Find a way to go out and add value to your community, family, and those you encounter.  Thanks for reading and have a GREAT week!!

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling - Christmas Break Edition

posted Jan 5, 2015, 1:24 PM by Coach Naasz

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling

Wow, it's January already!!!  Where does the time go?  Christmas Break couldn't have hit at a better time for the squad as many of our wrestlers were nursing injuries and battling illness.

Over break, we took a step back and treated it like many of the college football teams do as they prepare for their bowl games.  We got back to the basics with our technique and began to build on our conditioning that we had in the preseason.

We are now entering what we refer to as the regular season and will send wrestlers to the Concordia JV Tournament on Friday and the Ellsworth Invite on Saturday.

This week the squad's focus is "Be Attentive".  We also continue to discuss our season theme, IOTAS (It Only Takes A Second) and how it applies to life.  This time of year many people make New Years resolutions and many people quickly break these resolutions.  Instead, we encourage our athletes to have goals with a plan, and realize that each second they exist, they have a chance to stride toward their goals.

As we continue in 2015, we thank you for your continued support and encourage you to make IOTAS your focus for the year.

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling - Double Dual & Ellsworth Edition

posted Dec 23, 2014, 6:40 AM by Coach Naasz

This Week in Lincoln Wrestling

This past Thursday, we played host to Beloit and Russell.  With the squad being a bit short handed due to injury, the night went pretty quick. The key matchup of the evening came between former teammates Rocky Krueger and Jordon Herrman.  Herrman now wrestles for Beloit.  In a very tight 6-5 match, Krueger was able to pick up the emotional victory.

On Saturday the team made the short trip to Ellsworth and had three varsity entries, all of which garnered a place on the podium.  It was so much fun to watch our wrestlers show their gains and finish out the preseason with a list of positives.

Rocky Krueger (12) 120#  2nd Place
Dalton Junek (12)  152#  4th Place
Nate Feldkamp (10) 285# 3rd Place

This week the squad's focus is "Be Accepting" .  Yesterday the team traveled to NCK Wellness  in Beloit for a workout in the indoor pool.  Following the workout the team had their Christmas dinner back in Lincoln at Pizza Hut.  Today the squad will get their last workout in before Christmas then will get back on the mats next Monday.

Finally, we here at Lincoln Wrestling want to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas, and a safe and Happy New Year!!!
