Who Should Attend?

This workshop is open to anyone who would like to:

T’ai Chi Chuan is a powerful tool which; in addition to making us more flexible and strengthening our bodies, will help prevent injury and illness.

T'ai Chi Chuan is suitable for all levels of fitness, if you have any concerns regarding this please do not hesitate to ring us. 

What are Transitions?

Transitions are the 'twiddlly bits' between the 'milestones', or to put it slightly more eloquently; Transitions are the movements between the milestones, once a student has learned some milestones he/she needs these next to start piecing the form together into a seamless flow.

Workshop components:

We will learn and practice the transformation and interchange between postures (milestones), considering the maintenance of correct alignments as we move from one posture to the next.  The workshop will be split into three main sections:

Introduction: discuss the general principles that run through all the transitions

Large group practice: one transition will be chosen to illustrate the principles discussed

Small group practice: we will split into three groups to practice transitions relevant to each section of the sequence.

After the first two parts of the workshop, students will be asked to choose to work in one of three groups: 1st section, 2nd section and 3rd section of the T'ai Chi Chuan sequence. Students will generally choose the group studying the section of the form that they are currently learning.

However, there will be flexibility to move from group to group during the workshop, especially for those having already studied more than one section. Students having only studied part of the first section will probably prefer to work within this group throughout the morning.

Learning materials will be provided for you to take notes should you wish and to keep as an aide memoire for your own practice.  In addition to this material and talking to me, please talk to your fellow students some of whom will more advanced students and all I am sure will be happy to answer your questions.

I will bring my flip chart along to help get the concepts across and there will be plenty of time for questioning and exploring some undelying concepts.

Three hours may seem like a long time but it really will fly by, at these workshops there is a relaxed atmosphere with much laughter and plenty of breaks and plenty of tea!

A deepening understanding and refinement of the movements that have already been learned.  An opportunity to observe and work with students of different levels.


A deepening understanding of the interchange of energy generated and directed in the form. An opportunity to observed, work with and learn from beginners and intermediate students.
