The Buzz from around the World
The information in this post appeared on the Sofalaverde.org blog in early November. Nairobi, Maputo, Berlin and Sofala. Jean-Paul and Sonia Vermeulen, PSV President and Secretary, met with the participating bee-keepers at Catapú in September to kick off the 2014-15 high-grade honey production. PSV explores with the community what bee-keeping and honey production means for them. Dana Tours, Maputo has donated two bikes for our extension team. Thank you to Natalie-Tenzer Silva and her team. The community is spread out over many kilometers and these bikes will help Eusebio and Chano reach community members easily in order to support them for a successful honey harvest this coming season. Liebensteiner Kartonagenwerk GmbH has donated 1500 boxes, just perfect for packing our “Pau de Mel” honey sticks for retail in Beira early next year. Thank you to Brigitte Mayerhöfer, who was our “inside connection”, and of course to Mr. Bernhard Schön who made the donation possible. The boxes were delivered to Berlin and are now on their way to Beira. One of these boxes was used at the prestigious SEED Symposium in September, where PSV VP Celesta von Chamier displayed “Pau de Mel” for the first time after accepting the SEED Africa 2014 Award for Pro Sofala Verde – PSV. Cervejas de Moçambique, SA is donating Wild Mozambique 2015 calendars to Pro-Sofala Verde in order to help PSV and fundraise for our combined Reforestation and Bee-keeping projects with the Mutondo communities. This is above and beyond the complete support of 20 families and 2000 trees in our reforestation project. Anyone interested in purchasing a calendar? They are for sale at the Dalmann Store in Maputo. It is a beautifully printed corporate calendar and the funds we raise go towards the Living Forests Endeavour for Sofala Project. |
